Students working on "Tell the Tale" lab

For this lab, students were given the contents of a woman's purse found at a crime scene. The only information they were given other than the purse contents was that a hairy arm with a wedding band on was found at the top of a stairwell with two sets of bloody footprints leading away from the scene. Using the contents of the purse, students were asked to find out what the owner had done in the last week and come up with a story about what happened. Here's some students at work:

Tyniqua, Sarah, Betty

Tyler O., Cullen, Justin, and Scott
Kyle, Amber, Sam N.

  1. Was this a kit that you purchased? I was given the worksheet for this activity but was unsure of it's origins so I googled it and came up with your blog :) I would love to do such a lab with my students as well... could you tell me how I might find this lesson or what the contents of the purse are and supposedly leading them to believe?

  2. This lab is from a book that I have, but I cannot think of the name of the author right now. It is called Crime Scene Investigations and can be found in most science order books in the forensics section.
    I hope that helps!
